Description
From producer KP
What you have with Basick is a unique blend of music styles. The whole
concept was really a leap of faith since we just didn't know how the parts
would blend. So then one night he drop the fundamentals of Basick (the title track),
in my ear and the chords and rhythm flowed. Wood even came with some guitar licks
on top of the main rhythm. Everything was blending so well that by the time we were
working on the intro track, we were just having fun with it.
A lot of the tracks were colaborations but there were a couple that were 100% mine or Wood's.
In that regard, Ride is my baby. I like to take long drives either to clear my head or to just be out
and about- it helps me write. So this track takes you through that hypnotic and then euphoric
feeling you get while cruise'n down on the highway at sunset- no traffic, cool breeze and
good music.
From producer Wood Black
As I listen to Basick?, I realize that I love it. again. Usually, after I finish a project,
I don't really want to hear it six months later. Why? Simple. I'm always learning
something new. When I go back and listen to an older work, I want to improve upon it.
But this time, I'm realizing the beauty of what is, was and always will be. My first.
My first works. My first creations. My first expressions. My first experiments. My first
love. Enjoy.
Chaos' way... this is the VERY first time I used sound samples in a track. It was a bit
of a challenge because I had to get the timing right so it would fit. I chose the chants
because I wanted to depart from the other tracks that I did for Basick?. It was also
the first time I used effects too (listen to the snare). This was created the same night
we recorded it. Normally, I'll have 90% of the track completed at Woodworks before
I bring it to Studio K.
Basick?... Why is it spelled like that? Why is there a question mark on the end?
Because in essence, it's a basic track but for anyone that's into drum patterns, they
know it's kinda sick. I think this track was the most frustrating for Keith and I. I had us
up ALL night in the studio tracking this song out. There were so MANY different kicks
used on this song it was confusing for me to mix. The breakdown at the end of the
song (the last 30 seconds) makes you ask... Was it Basick?
Let go...This was all done on my drum machine- my very first piece of equipment.
When I came up with the piano part, I was so hyped you couldn't tell me NOTHIN'!!!
I don't think there was any other track I played more than this one after making it.
The tones of the piano even pulsate with the beat. This was my feel good track. It
reminds me of when I first discovered that I love house music.
